Tennis Club Break in

A shed at Henley Tennis Club off Tilebarn Close was broken into last Saturday (23 March) around 4.45pm.

The chicken wire mesh around the window was cut, the window smashed and the shutters pushed inwards to gain access.

Tom Scott, Head Coach at Henley Tennis Club said, “A group of six teenagers some of which were wearing balaclavas and hoodies were seen around the Henley Tennis Club by our neighbours and then seen walking down Deanfield Road, with one of them going into a Portaloo whilst two others attempted to push it over.  They had been seen smoking and drinking earlier with one of the young girls being badly intoxicated with alcohol. Luckily nothing was taken as the shed only had coaching items in it and nothing of any value is kept at the club.”

“It is more of frustration and hindrance than the actual crime being committed.  There is a bigger issue with young people getting bored and then doing anti-social behaviour.  We need to look at the bigger picture as a whole community and get together to offer something for the young people, whether that be playing or teaching sport or just somewhere they can hang out together and/or perhaps doing something for the community.”

“This doesn’t stop our momentum as we’ve got some good plans for the future at the club.  We’re going develop tennis in the community even more than we’ve done already, we have big ambitions after recently winning the Oxfordshire Lawn Tennis Association’s Club of the Year.”

The club will be installing CCTV at the club.  If you have any information about the crime, please contact the police on 101 quoting case reference number 43240135410.
