Blue Magoo Jazz Up Magoos This Friday

Blue Magoo, a local jazz group are performing at Magoos this Friday (5 April) from 7.30pm.

The band got together through meeting each other at the annual Henley Jazz Workshop and then Bryan McCrae was persuaded to start up a regular monthly Jazz Jam in Henley which Magoos kindly agreed to host.  They have performed at the Harpsden Hoo Haa twice, at the bandstand on Mill Meadows and they went down a storm at last year’s Living Advent Calendar.

Bryan said, “We play a mixture of jazz, blues, calypso, funk and ballads and the emphasis is on fun, upbeat music that people will enjoy and maybe even get up and dance to. The current band line up is Anna Del Nevo on violin, Annie Parker on flute, me and Graeme Wood on saxophones, Fitz Thomas on bass guitar, Richie Fraser on keyboard, Steve Rivett and Tom Sim on guitars with Jo Fredericks on Drums.

Anna got the band their first gig at Harpsden Hoo Ha, then Annie their flautist got them a gig on Mill Meadows and more have followed. Bryan added, “We are privileged that both Anna and Annie are professional musicians, with Anna both teaching Suzuki Method violin and performing in string quartets and other chamber groups as well as in Henley Symphony Orchestra. Annie is in several jazz bands and has an enormous online following with one of her videos racking up over a quarter of a million views. The rest of the band play on an amateur basis and continue on the never ending journey of mastering jazz.”

The gig is FREE entry and will include songs including Sunny, Fly me to the Moon, St Thomas,  It don’t Mean a Thing and Tequila.
