Henley Win Both Friendly Games Last Week

Henley entertained Maidenhead Thicket in a friendly five mixed triples match on a chilly Wednesday evening last week, running out winners 108-51. Steve Sullivan skipped the highest winning rink, with Angelika Crisa and new bowler Phil Smillie. They opened a ten shot lead after ten ends, and raced to a twenty-two margin, winning 27-5. John Munnelly with Jeanie Davies and Martin Taylor were evenly matched 11-9 after eleven ends, then pulled away to win 23-11. Andy Scott with Joan Edwards and Nigel Bridges were level five all after six ends, two up after thirteen ends and finishing 23-14. Barrie Davies with Peter Falle and Rachel Shaw, in her first match, were eight up after ten ends with Maidenhead pulling back to just three down after fifteen ends then Henley coming back to win 19-10.  Peter Borsberry with Ramsay Adams and Romy Painter were evenly matched through out, but just went down 11-16.

On Saturday 1 June, Henley visited Trentham in a friendly five mixed triples match with the winning score 84-72. Gill Robins on rink four had the same shot difference, and ends won as Norman Daniells on rink three, but Gill’s rink scored the most shots so was awarded the highest winning rink. Gill Robins with John Munnelly and Peter Menhinick were evenly matched 6-5 after nine ends and scoring thirteen over the next nine ends to win 19-10. Norman Daniells with Jeanie Davies and Glynis Holland were evenly matched 6-5 after eight ends, then pulled away to win 18-9.
Barrie Davies with Sally Daniells and Ramsay Adams were level ten all after twelve ends, then pulled away to win 19-12. Peter Borsberry with Andy Scott and Angelika Crisa raced to an eight shot lead after five ends then increasing their lead to twelve shots after thirteen ends, dropped six over the last ends but still winning with the reduced margin of six 21-15. Colin Ward with Joan Edwards and Trish Jones scored one on the first end, then found themselves 1-19 down after ten ends, managed to score six more over the final ends, but went down 7-26.
