Rotary Club Walk Raises £1500 for Prostate Cancer
Henley Rotary Club raised £1,500 for Prostate Cancer UK on Sunday at a charity walk through Binfield Heath. Some 20 people took up the challenge of a three-mile walk from The Bottle and Glass pub through the woods to Crowley Park and back. Along the way, volunteer Philippa Sanders of Pipsticks Walks discussed several aspects of the area, including how Arthur Conan Doyle’s “Hound of the Baskervilles” was based on a gruesome local legend.
The club organised the walk after one of its members developed prostate cancer, which afflicts one-in-eight men during their lifetime. Thanks to early detection — a key message of Prostate Cancer UK — and the fine work of the NHS, all was well and the Rotarian concerned enjoyed the walk as much as the rest of the group.
