Angelina Presented With Poppy Appeal Long Service Award

Henley Poppy Appeal collector, Angelina Jones has been presented with a 25 year certification of appreciation service award by Chair of the RBL Henley Poppy Appeal organiser.

Angelina’s family has a long association with the armed services.  She said, “I grew up listening to my grandparents experiences of WW2 in Bethnal Green & Ostricourt in Northern France and my Dad Peter Jones, for the seven happy years that he spent as a proud Sapper in The Royal Engineers. Military history from WW1 & 2 have always been topics of conversation within our family as well as the importance of Remembrance . I originally decided to become involved with HOT RBL after witnessing a lovely local man and Welsh Fusilier, ” Taffy” Mayers, collecting for the Poppy Appeal in torrential rain. I felt ashamed that this smashing elderly man was doing his bit  and I realised that it was time for me to step up and do likewise. I have loved being part of my local group ever since. It is a very humbling and rewarding experience helping with the Poppy Appeal. The charity clearly means a great deal to the general public, who are often keen to share memories of their own time or family’s time in the military. I have been moved to tears on many occasions by the stories that they have told me.”

“I was very proud to receive the reward from my friend Richard Pinches. He is doing a fantastic job as the Henley RBL organiser. The charity is clearly very close to his heart and he puts a huge amount of his time, expertise and energy into the charity. I would encourage other local people to consider getting involved too. Time poor? By donating just an hour or two of your time, during The Poppy Appeal, you’ll be helping to raise much needed funds for Members of the Armed forces, Veterans and their families and you’ll get to meet some good people along the way too. Why not give it a try?”

Richard Pinches RBL Chairman and Henley Poppy Appeal organiser said, “Angelina is one of our standout stalwart collectors and never gives a second thought about spending her spare time after a long days work in town collecting for the Poppy Appeal. Henley born and bred, like me, she knows so many people and her positive right cheery demeanor is a huge magnet to others when she’s out collecting. I am very proud to have her on my team and I am very happy to have been able to get this small accolade arranged for her to thank her for her generosity of time and effort. The fact that she’s been doing this for over a quarter of centuries is truly amazing and who knows how much she would’ve raised over that period, well done Jonesy!”
