Great weekend for the Exiles!
SATURDAY
Two weeks without a game and eager to get back out on the pitch Henley Exiles were hosting Reading City Youths.
The Exiles started with excellent energy and on the front foot, pressuring the opposition it didn’t take too long for them to take the lead when Musa Saidybah played a nice ball through to Henry McDonagh who hit the ball from distance and the keeper couldn’t deal with it.
As the half wore on a bit of tiredness and fatigue crept into the Henley performance which allowed Reading City to get level before the break.
The second half was extremely even and the game could have gone either way.
However, it was the visitors that took advantage when they capitalised on Henley over committing players and hit them on the break to go in front.
Henley continued to plug away and created multiple chances to equalise. With time rapidly running out it looked like the Exiles were heading for another defeat.
With only a couple of minutes to go Charlie Saul launched a late free kick into the box from deep, causing a mad panic and Ben Stodolnic got a good shot off that the keeper saved, but Tyree Street was on hand to tap home the equaliser and give the Henley Exiles a well earned point.
SUNDAY
On Remembrance Sunday the Henley Exiles put in a performance to remember.
The first half was a totally dominant display from the visitors, against The Six Bells FC who had no answers.
Tyree Street opened the scoring from a beautifully curled free kick into the top corner, after Charlie Saul’s surging run won the foul.
After missing a couple of good opportunities the Exiles extended their lead when Tom Vockins carried the ball positively down the right then played a lovely through ball into the path of Will Sheard who slotted the ball calmly past the keeper into the bottom corner.
With not long left of the half Lincoln Winters got in on the act and hit an early contender for goal of the season, when the ball landed to him from 45 yards out he hit a speculative volley that looped over the keeper’s head into the net. An absolute cracker!!!
The second half was more of a scrappy affair and although Henley still created chances they were unable to capitalise.
Against the run of play The Six Bells managed to get a goal back but it was little more than a consolation, and the Exiles ran out 1-3 winners.
