Council recommends refusal of new College security gates

A planning application to install new fencing and access control gates at The Henley College on the Deanfield Avenue site has been recommended refusal by Henley Town Council’s Planning Committee due to highway concerns and the height and design of the black gates.

The Committee said they were concerned that the gates could result in vehicles waiting across or obstructing the pavement, which is heavily used by students and other pedestrians. The Committee also raised concerns about the potential impact on the wider highway network. There was insufficient justification provided to explain why the fencing is required. Committee members felt the height, design and black finish of the fencing and gates would create an institutional appearance that would adversely affect the street scene.

A spokesperson for The Henley College said, “The college is exploring options to place fencing and access gates to the Deanfield site, which is a common feature of schools and colleges.  This is our initial application and we look forward to working with the planning committee to further develop our ideas.”
