Baroness Maria von Hackemann Kix Out at Her Kristmas Kabaret
[margin10]Maria von Hackemann, Henley’s Berlin Baroness brought her vintage-style cabaret show to the Three Tuns Pub again last week for a special Kristmas show. Maria was a runner up in this year’s Sue Ryder Women of Achievements Awards – Performer of the Year and she’s performed at a number of Henley events including the Living Advent Calendar last year and recently at the World War 2 Big Band Party in aid of the Poppy Appeal in November.
Maria showered the audience with snow on way her way to the front which set the scene for some great hilarious songs and anecdotes and lots of audience participation. Maria not only has a great voice but she mixes her fluent German with English with such ease. She also puts her own unique interpretation and comic intro to all her songs which last week included ‘Keep Young and Beautiful’, ‘Money Money Money’ and the ‘Laziest Girl in Town’. She says the Baroness is the natural result of her love of Thirties music, passion for performing and the influence of her German grandmother Ruth Rüber. Maria describes herself as “cabaret chanteuse” but insists her act is not burlesque.
In between the singing last week she played a great fun game of ‘Decken the Weihnachtsbaum’ (decorate the Christmas Tree) when she got two couples to decorate one of the pair with silly decorations to make a Chrsitmas tree with the winners being voted by the audience.
Maria said, “My shows in Henley are getting quite a following and I hope to do more events here.” To find out more about the Baroness go to http://www.theberlinbaroness.com/
