Pauline and Donna Crowned Henley Slimmers of the Year

Pauline Bennett (above left) from Nicholas Road has been named Slimming World ‘Woman of the Year’ 2017 in the Henley Wednesday evening group thanks to her life-changing 3st 6lbs weight loss.  She went from 16st 6.5lbs to 13st 0.5lbs in just 22 weeks.

Whilst Donna Xanthidis, another local resident, has been crowned Woman of the Year in the Henley Tuesday evening group following her fabulous 1st 12lbs weight loss.

One of Pauline’s primary reasons for taking the plunge and joining Slimming World in April this year was due to her concern over her ever increasing health problems including fatty liver and cholesterol increasing to the high end of normal.

Pauline says “I am very keen to eat normally and healthily and not think of it as a diet but a plan, a lifestyle choice and I am so pleased to say that Slimming World’s food optimising has allowed me to do just that. I am still able to eat lunch out with friends and not feel as though I am deprived because of being on a ‘diet’, choosing things like poached egg on toast or jacket potatoes with beans which I really enjoy. I also enjoy making homemade soups with lots of veg and treats such as fat free fromage frais with fruit and a skinny latte ”

Pauline is absolutely thrilled to have gone from a dress size 24 to a 14, losing so much weight that her skirt fell down as she walked down the garden this week – she’s just hoping her lodger didn’t see!

She says; “It might sound silly but I’m really excited by this as I love shopping and trying on new clothes but everything just looked the same ‘beached whale’ look on me which made me very dispirited so now I can look forward to going out and updating my wardrobe. And even better than that, at my most recent appointment, my doctor was stunned and very pleased to report that all my tests have now moved into the normal, healthy range meaning I don’t have to take medication that had been previously advised.”

Losing a fantastic 10.5lbs in her first week was a huge confidence boost, showing Pauline that the changes she’d been making had made a big difference straight away. This confidence boost spurred Pauline on to continue with these changes and her amazing weight loss speaks for itself. She says “I love the flexibility of this eating plan which is without doubt playing a huge part in my weight loss journey, but just as importantly, I love going to my Slimming World group each week. Essentially, I know how to lose weight, but without the support of the group, with Gemma at the helm, I’m sure I would soon be back to my old ways. But I am determined that this will not happen. I look forward to going to group each week, to sharing ideas with and supporting my fellow group members, I pick up different hints and tips every week. I know a lot of people worry about joining a slimming club because they don’t know what to expect. Right from the first moment I walked into my Slimming World group I felt comfortable though, and the support I’ve received has been amazing. Winning Woman of the Year is a real honour because there are so many amazing members in our group. I remember feeling like there was no hope when it came to my weight but I’ve realised that when people believe in you – and you believe in yourself – you can do anything you set your mind to. I really hope my weight loss can inspire other people to get started on their own journey and know that there’s a whole group of people waiting to support them every step of the way – especially at the Henley Wednesday group.”

Gemma Grange, who runs the Henley-on-Thames Wednesday evening group, says: “I’m so proud of Pauline, she’s a fantastic ambassador for Slimming World and a shining example of what can be achieved when you believe in yourself and commit to healthy lifestyle changes; what she’s achieved is nothing short of incredible! She’s a huge inspiration to everyone in our group and I hope she inspires other women – and men – in Henley to change their lives in the same way.”

Donna says “I’m humbled to have been voted Woman of the Year and can’t thank Nat and my fellow members enough for their fab support each week.”
