Olivia Harrison, widow of Beatle George Harrison has expressed support for a new memorial garden in Henley after Henley Mayor, Councillor Kellie Hinton and Emma Sweet from Brakspear wrote to her.
Speaking at the last Henley in Bloom meeting, Kellie updated the committee by saying that she had met with a representative from Material World Foundation in October (George’s charitable foundation trust) and talked about possible locations and ideas for the garden.
Kellie said, “This is the first time that Olivia has been interested in taking a memorial idea forward. We talked about the garden being inspired by George’s ethos for life – a really tranquil and natural space for visitors to enjoy and relax in. Mill Meadows has been suggested as location which would fit in with this as it has nearby flowing water from the river and open natural tranquil green space. It would be great to have a memorial to George and to celebrate that Olivia and George chose Henley as their home. We want to work with Olivia to create something special.”
The Henley in Bloom committee will discuss ideas and a possible locations at their next meeting on 29 March as well as looking at ways to fund the new memorial.
