Mayor Joins in Belly Dancing on Day 6 of LAC

Henley Mayor, Councillor Ken Arlett joined in the belly dancing on day 6 of the Living Advent Calendar at a packed Spice Merchant with Sheb Bamsey.

The evening was organised by Tom Ryan and Paula Price-Davis and opened with singer/songwriter Holly Shillito performing George Michael’s classic Christmas song, Last Christmas by Wham. Careless Whisper by George Michael and her own song, Illuminate.

Holly said afterwards, “I met Tom at the Reading Fringe and he invited me to sing here.  It was busier than I thought it would be.  It was really enjoyable and a lovely space to sing in.  The people were lovely and there was lovely vibe.”

The evening was raising money for The Chiltern Centre. Trustee Nick Steel spoke to the audience about how the Centre supports families who have young disabled adults before the performance.  The raffle raised £335 in aid of the charity.

Sheb started her belly routine in the outside area before coming down the stairs and through the crowd to the front.  She then enticed two audience members to have a go before asking the Mayor to join her to the delight of the crowd.

Sheb said, “It was my first performance at the LAC and it was great.  I think it went amazingly well.  People were so attentive and as I was passing they were saying some lovely things to me.  I really enjoyed it and the audience were all very nice and the audience always makes more than half of it.”
