Sustainable homeware products including tea sets, mirrors and pots, a range of organic CBD oil products, soaps, oils, candles and herbal teas plus beautiful plants are all on offer at the new Wild & Rust shop which opened on Saturday in Duke Street.
Friends, Bea Pearson and Nicki Barley have gone into partnership for the new venture which brings an eclectic mix of feel-good products for you and your home.
Bea said, “All of our ranges are about wellbeing and sustainability. The plants bring the outdoors indoor and are mood boosting. All of our products are hand made, fair trade or artisan made. They’re all handpicked. We can trace all the products. Everything is recyclable and/or biodegradable which is also important to us. We wanted to bring things to market that are sustainable but also beautiful. Some sustainable products are a big drab. We also wanted to support our local economy. We hope to build on our local suppliers. All the wellbeing range is manufactured/packed in the UK. Nothing has travelled very far and from people that we know and trust. We looked at a number of units with Oliver from Simmons & Sons and this shop was the best fit for our business.”
Nikki previously ran the florist White Gdn in Hart Street. She sold it 8 years ago and had it for 10 years. Nikki commented, “It’s lovely to be back in Henley. I love retail, I love buying and doing the merchandising. I’ve seen lots of my old customers already which is nice and they’ve said ‘welcome back’. I’m really into the plants and the wellbeing side of them and the benefits. I think we’ve got something different for Henley. In the future, we’d really like to do some workshops, getting some local producers and makers on board and perhaps some children’s creative workshops too as I have two young children and am always looking for things to do with them. With my floristry background we’ll probably do some wreath making nearer to the Christmas and bouquets in the Spring. There’s so many things we can do to utilise the space.”
Bea and Nikki held a private VIP on Friday which was attend by Lord Leigh of Hurley, Henley MP John Howell and his chief of staff attended as well as Henley Mayor and Mayoress, Ken and Dorothy Arlett.
Henley Town & Community Manager, Helen Barnett said, “We are delighted to welcome fabulous new retailer Wild and Rust to the town. We all need to become more ethical in the way we work as has been seen by the lockdown. Wild and Rust has sustainable and desirable products for the home to help towards a mindful shopping experience. They are also specialising in bringing the outdoors inside to help your wellbeing another unique concept for Henley.
We have a few new retailers opening their doors over the next few weeks which demonstrates that Henley even in this challenging time is thriving.”
