Mayor Celebrates Launch of Rug Department at Sofas & Stuff

Sofas & Stuff on Reading Road celebrated the launch of their partnership with Rugs of Petworth on Saturday when Henley Mayor, Councillor Sarah Miller joined owner Alex Rees and Showroom Manager, Nick Ferguson to mark the opening of the handmade rug department.

Rugs of Petworth is renowned for its unique collections of handmade rugs and carpets, each one inspired by and sourced from Alex travels around the ancient Silk Road countries.    Alex started the business back in 2008, but his passion for rugs began much earlier, when he took a job in a rug shop in Buckinghamshire. During this time, he spent his days helping customers find the perfect rug for their home and became inspired for life by both the beauty and craftsmanship of the pieces. Each rug is lovingly handmade using traditional methods that have been passed down through generations of weavers.

Andrew Cussins, Founder of Sofas & Stuff said, Sometimes we fall in love with another business that is as dedicated to handmade furnishings as we are.  It’s not hard to see why we’ve fallen for Rugs of Petworth, who personally source each one of their beautiful handmade rugs and carpets from buying trips across Afghanistan, Turkey, India and Pakistan.”

Alex said, “The partnership with Sofas & Stuff is really exciting, as the two businesses are passionate about both hand craftsmanship and beautiful interiors.  I’m looking forward to bringing our beautiful handmade rugs to a new audience in Henley-on-Thames, and finding some hand-woven treasures to furnish some of the lovely homes in this area.”

Sarah said, “I was delighted to be invited to the official launch of Sofas & Stuff, especially as it gave me a chance to wonder around their fabulous showroom. Their sofas are beautifully made and I fell in love with their rugs. All their furniture is lovingly hand made. Huge thanks to Alex and Nick, and the rest of the staff for inviting me and for pouring such a generous glass of champagne. I shall most definitely be back.”
