Garden Waste Still Suspended
South Oxfordshire District Council have confirmed that their garden waste will continue to be suspended.
In a statement they said, “We regret to inform you that garden waste collections in our districts will remain paused at this time to ensure we can continue to provide core waste collections – rubbish, recycling and food – without major disruptions. The garden waste service was suspended last month due to our contractor, Biffa, struggling with the national shortage of HGV drivers, and during that time we have been working hard to encourage Biffa to find solutions to reinstate the service. We continue to work closely with our contractor, Biffa, to provide us with further information as to how they propose to reinstate their contracted services as soon as possible. As soon as we are able to, we will update you on when the service will be resumed. Until that time we are asking you to continue to remain patient and thank you for your understanding.”
“We are extremely sorry for the inconvenience we know this is causing, and we apologise that this service has fallen beneath the levels you have come to expect. We have asked Biffa to provide options so they can make it up to anybody who doesn’t receive the service they should this year.”
Suspended garden waste. I know of no other area within a 60 mile radius that is having difficulty with HGV’s drivers. Garden waste has been collected north of the county and no known disruptions in neighbouring counties.
Prior to this some years ago it was a continual breakdown of vehicles that was an ‘excuse’ for problem collections in this area with the contracted company!
As I suggested to an advocate for SODC perhaps a large skip(s) once a week in local car parks could be used to help alleviate the problem. Obviously monitored and paid by those whom we pay our taxes /fees too.
If you have a car it would be easy to put garden waste in a skip in the car park or go to the tip. Also people who do not pay for a bin would use it. I don’t and have totally filled my bin and compressed the contents. This situation is silly, I suggest the council seek a new contractor who can take away garden waste. I compost my food waste and have not put any out for nearly 18 months but do not have the capacity to compost my garden waste.
