Henley Offshore Talk – Birth of Naida Sailing Boat

The Henley Offshore Group will be holding its second sailing talk of the winter season on Wednesday 10 November at 8pm at Henley Rugby Club.

Iain Tolhurst will be talking to us about the birth of Naida. After the great storm of 1987 Iain began collecting fallen timber from the local woods. The timbers together with other recycled materials were used by Iain to build the ketch Naida. Naida was launched in 2011.

Iain will present the remarkable story of this unique Pinky Ketch starting with the great storm, the timber that went into the craft, the 12-year build and the launch into the River Thames at Pangbourne. From there Naida was sailed down to London and onwards to Tresco on the Isles of Scilly for her maiden voyage.

Iain lives locally and runs Tolhurst Organic a 17 acre stock-free organic farm near Whitchurch-on-Thames.

After the break for Covid we are not making any charge to non-members attending our meetings for the remainder of 2021. There are full details at our website henleyoffshore.org
