Christmas Lunch Returns to Over 60s Social Club

Members of the Over 60s Club were treated to a lovely Christmas lunch thanks to Copas turkeys and Tomalin & Son Funeral Directors yesterday.

Guests also enjoyed festive entertainment from Ken Fitt on clarinet and saxophone and the chance to win some excellent raffle prizes donated by WH Smith, Waitrose, Weatherspoons, Boots, Temptations, Henley Pharmacy, Machins Butchers and a fruit box from O’Neill’s market stall.

Gill Dodds, Chair of Over 60s Club Trustees said, “Aren’t we lucky to have this event back after 2 years?  It is just lovely to see the familiar faces and we were quite nervous when we opened up in the summer but gradually people are coming back. I think it’s nearly as busy as the Christmas lunch 2 years ago.”

Member, Allen Rout was attending the Christmas party for the first time.  He said, “I started coming to the Club in July this year.  My partner never wanted to come and she’s in a care home now.  I was walking past and I came in.  I got a lovely warm welcome.  I come 3 days a week and have lunch which is good.  I used to take the members out on their monthly coach trips as the coach driver so I know I quite a few people as result of that which is nice so when I walked in they immediately recognised me.”
