Newly Launched Berkshire Menopause Clinic Welcomes New Patients

Wednesday morning marked the launch of the Berkshire Menopause Clinic, a new private women’s health service based at Active VIII on West Lane. The clinic has been founded and will by led by Dr Shilpa McQuillan, a GP, Gynaecologist and British Menopause Society accredited Menopause Specialist. Through the clinic, Dr McQuillan will offer personalised, professional, and high quality medical care for patients experiencing symptoms of peri-menopause and menopause.

At Wednesday morning’s launch, Dr McQuillan said, “I’m very excited. I myself am local – I live nearby – so I wanted to have something in the area that has expertise in menopause. To provide for all the patients in Henley and South Oxfordshire and Berkshire is something that I’m really passionate about, and I’m very excited to start today.”

Dr McQuillan first noticed the need for such a clinic when she was working as a Community Gynaecologist, when many patients expressed a need for expert support through peri-menopause and menopause. Recognising this underserved community, she took the time to build her knowledge and qualifications, becoming a British Menopause Society accredited specialist in order to best help her patients. With the support of Active VIII, she has built the Berkshire Menopause Clinic, and is now ready to welcome new patients.

Dr McQuillan stated, “My hope is that people will see that there is a local person, a doctor, that they can trust, and that they have faith will be able to provide them really good, evidence-based menopause care. My ethos is very much a holistic approach. I very much believe in HRT and medication, but at the same time I really believe that there are loads of other things you can do for your physical and mental wellbeing. That’s why I’m really proud to work with other specialists like Active VIII, where there are specialist physiotherapies, there are pelvic floor experts, exercise, nutrition – all these things will really help us feel better and also will help with menopause symptoms as well.”

Sarah Roberts, Director of ACTIVE VIII, said, “I was absolutely thrilled when I was approached by Shilpa to see whether there was a possibility to work alongside each other. The pandemic has highlighted the necessity for care for women of this age. GPs’ time is at a premium and getting less, through no fault of their own but the pressure is on them. It’s fantastic to have someone like Shilpa, with her experience, her expertise, and her caring and professional attitude, to help women in this area. We wish her every luck and we look forward to working closely alongside one another.”
