An opportunity has arisen for the Kenton Theatre Management Society Ltd to appoint a Treasurer to the Board of Trustees in order to further the charitable aims and financial sustainability of the organisation.
The Kenton Theatre is a stunning Georgian building which first opened in November 1905 and is one of the oldest working theatres in the country. This is an exciting time for the Kenton Theatre as the charity recovers from lockdown and seeks to expand the reach of its artistic and community programme into new areas, welcoming new audiences to this historically important venue.
The Kenton Theatre is operated by the Kenton Theatre Management Society (KTMS), a registered charity and company limited by guarantee. KTMS has a Board of Trustees/Directors who are responsible for the management and effective running of the Theatre. Besides thinking about the long-term future of the theatre, the Trustees must ensure the theatre looks after its assets, meets its financial obligations and functions within the legal framework of the charity.
The Treasurer oversees financial matters in line with good practice and in accordance with our governing documents and legal requirements and reports to the Board of Trustees at regular intervals about the financial health of the organisation. The Treasurer works closely with the Bookkeeper, Chief Executive and Company Secretary to ensure that Trustee decisions are acted upon and the charity is managed effectively.
This is a voluntary position, although reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
Key skills and experience required:
- Knowledge of accounting and financial management
- Good financial analysis skills
- Ability to communicate clearly
- Strong business and financial acumen
Previous board/trustee experience is not necessary and we welcome applications from all ages and backgrounds.

Your time commitment would be attendance at monthly evening meetings at the Kenton Theatre, some occasional meetings with other organisations and participation in Trustee Working Groups and training.
