The Chiltern Centre were delighted to receive a large cheque for £5,200 this week from local chef Simon McKenzie who had raised the money over the last 12 months.
Simon explained, “When we invoiced our customers we added 2% donation to The Chiltern Centre to the bill and if the client agreed to this we added another 2%. I think about 85-90% of our clients said yes or didn’t even question it which was really nice. I thought it was really worthwhile charity to support. The Chiltern Centre is just part of Henley and everyone knows it. It was really good fun coming to make pizzas with the Buddies group a year a go to launch the appeal.”
Harriet Barcella, Marketing & Communications Manager for The Chiltern Centre said, “When I spoke to Simon initially I explained to him that it is really difficult to get unrestricted income which is money we can spend on anything. The reality is that the real life and soul of the centre, aside from the young people is the staff and they are the biggest cost so being able to have a team that are as caring and extraordinary is the most important thing. This donation would be pay for around a quarter of one of the care staff’s annual salary which is great.”
