Probus Club Meeting & AGM

The Henley Probus Club held their AGM this week followed by their May meeting at Badgemore Park.  The Chairman circulated his annual report and emphasised that, as we move forward, a key issue for the incoming Chairman and his committee would be to fill the vacant positions of Vice Chairman and Events Secretary.

The President presented his report for the past year and announced that the President for the forthcoming year would be Julian Pearce and the Chairman would be Peter Stone.

The Treasurer then presented the general Accounts, including recommendations for distribution of the Charity fund, which was approved unanimously by the members. Further reports were presented by the Membership, Events and Friendship Secretaries.

There followed a short presentation on the new website for Henley Probus Club which can be accessed on http://henleymensprobus.org.uk

Two new members to the Club (George Brown and Peter Boardley) were then invited to provide a history of their backgrounds prior to joining the Club.

The Chairman outlined the proposed visiting speakers schedule for 2023:

  • June 2023: Mike Payne, “The History of Pinewood Studios”.
  • July 2023: Richard Havelock, “The Royal Berks Medical Museum”.
  • August 2023: Mike Willoughby, “Remembering the Men of Henley Who Died in Two World Wars”.
  • September 2023: Martin Beek, “The Art of the Thames particularly around Henley & Marlow”.
  • October 2023: Graham Horn, “The Kennet and Avon Canal”.

Henley Probus meets at Badgemore Park on the second Tuesday of each month; it starts with an informal gathering of its members (plus Visitors) for a discussion and coffee, with the formal meeting commencing at 1130 followed by a lunch.

If anyone is interested in joining the Club, please make themselves known to Roger Griffiths our Membership Secretary (01491575137/email regriffiths44@gmail.com) or to any Club member that you may know.
