Henley Win First Match Against Cippenham

On Wednesday 24 May, Henley entertained Cippenham in a four mixed triples friendly match. This was the first time the Clubs had met and Henley came out top, winning on three of the four rinks by 90-48. Colin Ward with Kevin Browne and Brian Duddy were well up after eleven ends, picked up a 7 on the next end and finished strongly to win 30-8. Simon Hatcher with Martin Cranstoun and Angelika Crisa started strongly, were 16 up after eight ends and finished on 24-8. Kevin Currill with David Palmer and Sheila Cranstoun led from the start finishing 19-11. Peter Borsberry with Joan Edwards and Nigel Bridges struggled from the start and were 12 down after nine ends. Although they pulled back over the final ends they still went down by 4 shots with a final score of 17-21.

On Saturday 27 May, Henley visited Pangbourne in an OTL five mixed triples match, winning on three rinks with a final score of 96-71. This gave 10 points to Henley and 4 to Pangbourne. Colin Ward with Simon Hatcher and Joan Edwards were level 5 all after six ends, took the lead on the seventh end and ran out convincing winners 20-9. Dave Wilson with Norman Daniells and Angelika Crisa were 12 up after fourteen ends, were pegged back to 6 up after sixteen ends, picked up a 6 on the seventeenth end to win 23-14. Kevin Currill with Jeanie Davies and Peter Watkins picked up a 5 on the first end and never looked back to win 21-12. Peter Borsberry with Sally Daniells and Peter Falle raced into a 10 shot lead after ten ends, were 9 up after fourteen ends, level 17 all after seventeen ends, only to drop 1 shot on the final end to go down 17-18. Gill Robins with Andy Scott and Barrie Davies were evenly matched at 5 all after seven ends, dropped a 7 on end ten, pulled back to 14 all after fifteen ends but couldn’t maintain their momentum and went down 15-18.

On Sunday 28 May, Henley visited Woodley in a five mixed triples friendly match winning on two rinks to Woodley’s three with a final score of 78-97. Gill Robins with Martin Cranstoun and Colin Lacey were evenly matched at 5 all after seven ends, pulled away to be 13 up after fourteen ends, dropped 9 over the next three ends but picked up 4 on the final to win 25-16. Kevin Currill with Keith Lawrance and Kathryn Lacey were 6 up after eight ends, just 1 up after sixteen ends, but ran out winners 15-13. Andy Scott with Trish Jones and Maurice Robins took the lead after seven ends, were 2 up after fourteen ends but went down 17-18. Peter Borsberry with Frank Powell and Glynis Holland were fairly evenly matched after sixteen ends being just 6 down but dropped 4 shots then 3 shots and the last two ends to go down 11-24. Joan Edwards with Roy Holland and Sheila Cranstoun were 7 all after seven ends, but struggled from there going down 10-26.
