Lions Pride at Devon Tournament
May Bank Holiday weekend saw Henley Lions and Lionesses represent the town on tour in Woolacombe, Devon.
Three squads of the Boys u14s, Girls u12s and Girls u14s all attended the festival, wearing the pink shirts with pride. The weekend long festival saw the Lions and Lionesses play teams from far and wide from Devon, Portsmouth and Wales.
All 3 teams came home with silverware which is outstanding considering the teams there. U14 boys finished runners up in their age group narrowly losing the final vs Grays Athletic. The U14 girls also finished runners up just missing out on being champions. The u12s Girls finished runners up too in their age bracket, but also claimed the Fair Play award for their immaculate behaviour and attitudes towards football, officials and oppositions.
Nick Hunt from Henley Lions FC said, “The weekend was perfect weather for all, the teams spent time on the beach and around the holiday park in between tournaments and have made memories for life! To end the weekend off, the awards were handed to us by Ex Liverpool and England Striker Emile Heskey.
To go away and come home with all 3 teams bringing back trophies and awards is a dream for all of them, and they have all done the town proud!”
