Swim Festival Celebrate 10th Year

Henley Swim are gearing up for a bumper swim festival with more than 3,000 swimmers and spectators expected to flock to Temple Island Meadows for the Outdoor Swimmer Henley Swim Festival this Sunday (9 July).

The festival is a swim event like no other, now in its 10th year, and attracts visitors from far afield. Set in a stunning location on the banks of the Thames, the
festival has something for both experienced swimmers and novices, and everyone in between. It’s the perfect destination for those looking for their first outdoor swimming experience, including children.

As well as organised swims in the river from 200m to 4 miles, there is a free river lido, sponsored by the Swimming Teachers Association, where swimmers of all standards can enjoy a dip across the day in a safe and supervised environment. Next to the lido, the river will also play host to sessions with Red paddleboards, and visitors can even try their hand at water-zorbing. In between events synchronised swimming display team, Almost Synchro, will take to the water.

The festival attracts elite swimmers as well as swimming celebs. This year 10km open water Olympian Cassie Patten will be hosting an exclusive swimming workshop (competition winners only) and Virgin Radio’s Vassos Alexander will be swimming the Four Mile challenge as well as signing copies of his book Running up that Hill.

There will be music, entertainment, and a chance to meet the Outdoor Swimmer team. Sports Presenter Ben Croucher will be on location, hosting talks and interviews with fascinating figures from the world of swimming. The UNLTD exhibition event sees invited individuals and teams compete against each other to swim as many miles as they can across the day. Competitors already announced include ZONE3 endurance athlete Josh Carr, local Henley Mermaid Laura Reineke and a team from the swimwear brand Deakin & Blue.

As well as swimming there is a whole event village on dry land to enjoy. Many traders will be on site, with a wide range of food and available and lots of space to picnic, guaranteeing an atmosphere with a real buzz.

Visitors are invited to make a weekend of it by staying at the on-site campsite which opens on Saturday afternoon – a sublime spot for the evening!
