Turning Back Time 2018 – Beryl Goes Missing

This story from 2018 is probably the best story we have covered and been involved in the last 10 years.  When an elderly person goes missing for over 24 hours, the outcome is mostly a very sad one however on this occasion Beryl was found 72 hours later and it was truly a wonderful and unexpected result.  The important work of Lowland Rescue when people go missing was recognised as the Herald’s charity for their Awards party in 2021.

Beryl Goes Missing

Beryl Flynn, aged 81, was last seen today (6/5) at 10am during a service at Holy Trinity Church in Church Street, Henley-on-Thames.

She is likely to have walked from the church, but has not been seen since.

Beryl is white, 5ft 5ins, has short silver/white hair, and was last seen wearing a light blue raincoat, a black skirt, and was carrying a black handbag.

Inspector Andrew Pickwick said: “We are concerned for Beryl’s welfare as she has Dementia, so may have become confused or forgetful after leaving church and has been missing for a number of hours.

“Henley has been very busy with many people out enjoying the sunshine. I would like to appeal to anyone in the area to look out for Beryl and immediately and report any possible sightings of anyone matching her description to Thames Valley Police.”

If you have any information about Beryl’s whereabouts please call the 24-hour enquiry centre on 101 quoting the reference 807 6/5.

Search continues through the night, heartened at the care & compassion of our team”

Many people went out to help with the search last night and the police helicopter was circling the town trying to locate Beryl from around 9pm last night. There was a possibly sighting at midnight on Greys Road.

If you are out helping to look for Beryl, please comment below on where you have looked and the time/day so that everyone can see which areas have been covered.

Our thoughts are with Beryl’s family.
