Train Ticket Office Reopens Despite GWR Proposal to Close it Again

Henley Train Station ticket office has reopened this week after three years despite GWR proposing to close the ticket office again in October 2023 which they have put forward in their public consultation.

The ticket office will be manned Monday-Friday 6.00am-1.00pm and Saturday 7.00am to 1.00pm.

GWR are currently asking passengers to complete a survey on how they sell tickets at stations in the future.  A spokesperson for GWR said, “It is important that we recognise the changes customers are making in the way they buy tickets, and there is a good case for bringing staff out of the ticket office and onto the concourse. We want to do that in the best way possible. We are not reducing station hours and our plans mean that customers should have better engagement with staff. Access to other station facilities and services such as passenger assistance, toilets and waiting rooms remains unchanged.”

Data released for Henley for the financial year 22/23 showed that 1322 (1.4%) tickets were sold at the ticket office during Regatta week as opposed to 34,073 at the ticket machine outside the station, 57,906 (62%) online and tickets collected at the ticket machine 12,527.

In other train news, there are some maintenance and track works taking place between Monday 14 and Thursday 17 August and a bus service will be replacing the trains.
