Wizard of Oz – Magical Family Fun

A cyclone of energetic fun burst through the Wizard of Oz outdoor show from Immersion Theatre company we’ve come to expect and love from them last Saturday at Rupert House Playing Fields hosted by the Kenton Theatre.

A panto for the summer season – the show is a magical mixture of humour, singing and dancing with clever scripting and catchy original songs.  Taking you on a journey along the yellow brick road, the show is faithful to the original story but with modern day references. There’s plenty of audience participation and you get the chance to get up close with the characters when they come out into the audience.  Teenager Sam from the audience was a good sport when he was encouraged on to the stage to show his scary-ness!

The bright and simple set with clever hidden areas captured your imagination and the colourful costumes really brought the characters to life.  All the actors were superb with their singing, dancing, expressions and perfect timings for those fun moments.

We loved all the really bad pun jokes with Scarecrow seeming to get them in bale-loads! There’s plenty of jokes for the adults thrown in too and there’s some clever excerpts from films including Star Wars and Braveheart with Lion showing off his Scottish accent.

If you missed out on seeing this one-off performance in Henley, don’t worry Immersion will be back again for the Kenton panto, Jack and the Beanstalk this December.  Tickets are already on sale at https://kentontheatre.co.uk/event/jack-and-the-beanstalk-2/
