Henley Bowling Club’s home friendlies matches on Wednesday 2 August against High Wycombe and on Saturday 5 August against Headington were called off due to heavy rain.
However, on Sunday 6 August, thankfully, the weather improved and, although rain interrupted play for ten minutes, Henley entertained Shiplake in a combined five triples OTL and Plomer Cup match.
Henley won on three rinks to Shiplake’s two with an overall score of 102-81 resulting in Henley taking the OTL points 10-4 and the Plomer Cup points 8-4. Norman Daniells with Steve Sullivan and Angelika Crisa dropped a 4 on the first end, scored consistently over the following ten ends to be well in front 22-4. They dropped a 2 on the next end but finished strongly with 29-8, Henley’s highest winning rink. Gill Robins with Simon Hatcher and Jo Wilson started slowly, were 6-5 up after seven ends, then accelerated to 24-5 after fourteen ends and finished on 27-10. Kevin Currill with Joan Edwards and Peter Watkins dropped a 5 on the first end, pulled back to 10-7 after six ends then dropped a 6 on the seventh end. They were still 4 down after ten ends but won the remaining eight ends to win 23-16. Peter Borsberry with Sally Daniells and Peter Falle were evenly matched 10-10 after ten ends, but dropped a 1 then a 4 to be five down and couldn’t catch up going down 15-19. Dave Wilson with Andy Scott and Jeanie Davies were 6 down after two ends, won the next two ends to be 2-6 down but failed to score over the next six ends to take the score to 2-18. They lost with a final score of 8-28.
