Lions Deliver Christmas Parcels to Those in Need

Henley Lions packed up food parcels that were bursting with full with food staples and Christmas treats at Henley YMCA pavilion last Sunday.  This is the 21st consecutive year that the Lions have provided the food parcels.

Eight Lion members packed over 100 bags in about an hour and other members then delivered them to addresses in and around Henley.  The bags contained food items brought from Tesco that included tinned beef and chick stew, soup, pasta, tinned vegetables, rice pudding, satsumas, a Christmas chocolate biscuit box, a chocolate orange, box of mints and mince pies.

The Lions co-ordinated the list of recipients of the food parcels through their historical list, doctors surgeries and the Christians Against Poverty Henley Debt Centre.

Pam Pitts who has been organising the initiative for the last 9 or so years said, “This year more than ever, because of the cost of living crisis our food parcels are very welcomed by the recipients at this time of year.  We work closely with the doctors surgeries and other organisations to make sure our parcels are delivered to people in need.”
