Four mass participation swimming events run by the organisation Henley Swim have again received top awards. The events were highly rated by swimmers who took part in the 2023 swim series and then left their feedback on the review platform Racecheck.
The Thames Marathon, Selkie Henley Classic and Club to Pub events in 2023 have all been awarded the top Gold Award, with the Outdoor Swimmer Henley Swim Festival scooping a Silver Award. With a rating of 4.86/5 the Thames Marathon also won the ‘best of the best’ Top Rated award for swimming- given to the highest awarded event in its sporting category. Only seven organisations have been awarded this across an international field. This is the best set of badges yet for the organisation, which has been putting on swimming events in the Thames for 20 years.
The review platform, Racecheck, invites event participants to rate their experience of an event after taking part. Races qualify for gold, silver and bronze awards by achieving benchmark average ratings from the reviews they receive. The results are therefore honest and genuine, not voted for by Racecheck or paid for by Henley Swim, but decided by those that have actually signed up and crossed the finish line. The awards are all about the unique experience for each athlete.
Operations Manager Juliet Hume said: “We hold Racecheck Awards in the highest regard as they are 100% voted for by those that come and swim our events. To be told so clearly that our swimmers are enjoying what we do while feeling safe and supported is the very best feeling. We aim to make our events fun but challenging, and very much based around the fantastic open water swimming community that we are part of.”
Henley Swim was born in 2004 when two rowers decided to swim the Henley Royal Regatta course early one morning before the boats got on the river. The organisation is celebrating its 20th year in 2024, and is delighted to have been given such a clear vote of confidence from the many entrants that took part last year. In 2023 around 3,500 swimmers took to the River Thames under the Henley Swim Banner.
The Selkie Henley Classic is the original swim, and has stayed true to its roots, remaining on the Henley Royal Regatta course and starting at around 4am on a Sunday morning. Since 2004 three more swims have been added to the calendar, all with their own distinctive character.
The Outdoor Swimmer Henley Swim Festival is a weekend celebration of all things outdoor swimming attracting swimmers from all over the country with swims of all distances, camping, entertainment, food and drink and an expanding shopping village.
The Club to Pub is a Saturday night swim to the iconic Angle on the Bridge pub in Henley, where a beer and bottle-opened medal is awarded to all finishers followed by a party at the pub.
The Thames Marathon has become one of the UKs most prestigious endurance swims and follows a stunning stretch of the Thames from Henley to Marlow with 13km and 5.5km options.
