Youth Choir Light Up D:two With Beautiful Sounds for Showcase

D:two was lit up with the beautiful sound of music on Thursday evening for the Henley Youth Choir’s Spring Showcase.

The Showcase opened with the Junior and Senior groups joining together to sing a medley from Matilda The Musical conducted by HYC’s Musical Director, Richard Harker.

Afterwards some of the young talented singers performed solos, opening with Serena Chilvers who sang Control by Zoe Wees followed by Phoebe Friend who played and sang From Afar by Vance Joy on her ukulele which she has taught herself to play.  Alejandra Forcada-Dominguez delighted the audience with not only singing, Singing in the Rain but playing it on the violin too!  Tabitha Bromley, a Year 6 pupil at Badgemore School confidently sang Flight Song by Rachel Platten showing off a good range of notes whilst balancing the loud and quiet parts brilliantly.

A medley from The Greatest Showman film by the Senior Youth Choir was clever with them stomping in time to the opening music and really showed off their love of singing.

Will Harding then wowed the audience by playing the unusual accordion performing People Who Have Gardens.  Samira Axinel completed the solo performances with a superb and beautiful rendition of The Closest Thing to Crazy by Katie Melua.

The Showcase ended with the two choirs coming together to sing a Steeleye Span Medley and Centuries by Fall out Boy. Before they sang Steeleye Span, Richard commented, “It’s a nostalgia trip for me.  I grew up with these songs.”  The audience were then encouraged to join in the chorus of Centuries.

Fi Harding, Henley Youth Choir Manager said afterwards to the audience, “What a wonderful evening. You must be so proud of your youngsters.”  She thanked the accompanists; Oliver Butterworth on drums, Andy Crowdy on guitar and bass and Anita D’Attellis on piano.

Tabitha Bromley said afterwards, “I’ve been coming to the Youth Choir for 2 years.  I like singing because it makes me feel calm.  I chose the song because I liked the strong words in it.  It’s the first time I’ve performed solo for a Youth Choir event.”

If you would like to join the Youth Choir, they rehearse on a Thursday evening at d:two.  It is for children aged 7-17.  To enquire contact Fi Harding at or call 07947 658252.
