Terry Serves Up Gabriel Machin ‘Life and Love of Food’ Book

Gabriel Machin, former butcher Terry Colby is launching his book Life and Love of Food on Saturday at the shop on Market Place charting the history of the business, its customers, food, farming and the plights affecting the food industry.

The book signing will take place between 9.00-12 noon on Saturday 13 April and the book is priced at £14.99.

Terry started working for the business, after leaving school at 15 in 1968 until 2012 (44 years).  He said, “Over the next 20 years after starting, the shop transformed from a very traditional butchers to a fine food shop known far and wide for exceptional quality food. I was privileged to play a part in the growth of the business and being front of house customers had confidence in my skills and knowledge of all produce. The book also deals with, personalities who used us, food scares BSE etc, environment and farming and my other journeys with food.  I wanted to write the book to tell Machin’s story which is renowned locally but there are other chapters of great local interest and my food journey is intertwined with all of that along with my views on the environment and farming.”

Now retired, Terry continues to enjoy his love of all things food, fishing and being the Chairman of the local billiards and snooker league.  He has represented England at billiards.
