Two Days of Music, Literature and a Special Afternoon Tea on Menu for Chiltern Arts Festival

Roger McGough, The Gesualdo Six and chamber music galore with saxophone, harp and piano, Mozart and Haydn string quartets and a trumpet trio: six events across two days in Henley during the 2024 Chiltern Arts Festival — PLUS a grand finale just up the road in Marlow, with 17th Century Italian masterpieces from award-winning vocal group, I Fagiolini.

The 2024 Chiltern Arts Festival explores the theme of Human Stories, presenting musicians of the highest calibre alongside literary stars of today. Events take place in Henley-on-Thames (10–11 May), the Risboroughs (12–13 May), Hughenden (16 May) and Marlow (17 May). The festival this year also launches an exciting new initiative, ListenUp & ListenIn, providing access to live classical music for young people as well as online resources to enhance everyone’s concert experience.

Opening the festival, join star poet and presenter Roger McGough for afternoon tea on the Thames; and in the evening, join three outstanding chamber musicians (Huw Wiggin (saxophone), Noriko Ogawa (piano) and Oliver Wass (harp)) for in an invigorating and eclectic programme featuring music from Bach to Gershwin and poetry from Sara Teasdale to Pádraig Ó Tuama.

Saturday is packed full of musical treats: Mozart and Haydn String Quartets with the Brompton Quartet; the remarkbale Natrio Trumpet Trio, in the afternoon; and the Gesualdo Six with a programme of French music in the evening, including Fauré’s stunning Requiem

The finale to this feast of music and literature takes place in Marlow on 17 May — with the award-winning group, I Fagiolini, presenting an array of 17th Century Italian choral masterpieces.
