Town Council Announce Henley Olympics Live

Henley Town Council will be hosting ‘Henley Olympics Live,’ an exciting initiative spearheaded by our new Mayor, Councillor Rory Hunt to show live Paris Olympics coverage on a big screen in Market Place.

The event will take place from Wednesday, 31 July to Sunday, 4 August.

The large screen will be set up at the top of the Market Place, where residents and visitors can gather to enjoy live BBC coverage of the Olympics from 9am to 9.30pm (with some variations depending on the coverage schedule) . The big screen will feature various events, with a special focus on rowing during the mornings and culminating in the much-anticipated 100m final on Sunday evening at 8:55 pm.

To ensure comfort and convenience, a limited number of chairs will be provided, but attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs and picnics.

Those visiting any of the Market Place cafes and restaurants with outdoor seating will also have a fantastic view of the screen to enjoy watching the sporting fixtures from Paris.

With 25 local athletes competing in the rowing events, there is a lot of local pride and the town to cheer for.

The Thursday morning market will proceed as usual without any disruptions.

The Council say there will more exciting announcements with surprises as part of Henley Olympics Live.

Rory said, “We have a great sporting heritage in this town, including being the host of two previous Olympic rowing events. I’m incredibly proud that we, as a town, have so many athletes competing in Paris and pleased that the council can enable to community to show its support together.”
