Valley Road Win First Schools Tennis Festival

The culmination of free tennis coaching at the primary schools in Henley in the summer saw the pupils come together to compete in the first Schools Tennis Festival Finals day on Friday at Henley Tennis Club on Deanfield Road.

The finals day was postponed from the summer due to the heatwave and unfortunately due to staff sickness at Badgemore Primary they weren’t able to attend.

Each school; Valley Road, Sacred Heart and Trinity entered 3 teams of 8 children from years 4, 5 and 6.  The competition was hotly contended particularly in the Year 5 age group however Valley Road swept the board winning all three age group trophies.

Tom Scott, Henley Tennis Club and MySportPro Coach said, “Thank you to everyone for coming today to take part and for making it so easy to organise so many of you.  Thank you to all the teachers who brought you down here.  I will be coming into your school to present everybody with a certificate and a medal at one of your assemblies.  You’ve all done so well in participating in this special event in front of everyone else in your school.  Whether you’ve won or lost you’ve all done fantastic.”

Year 6 Valley Road Pupil, Katie Clegg said afterwards, “It was amazing to win the trophy. I won both my games.  I started playing 2 years ago at the club.  I learnt at the school sessions that when you serve you have to throw the ball high, I used to throw it just in front of me.”
