Rotary Collect for Turkey & Syria Earthquake Appeal

Henley Rotary Club organised a street collection on Saturday in Market Place to collect for the Turkey and Syria earthquake disaster and raised over £730.

Rotary partner with Shelterbox a worldwide charity for emergency relief support.  They have provided emergency tents which have arrived in Turkiye on a free flight by Turkish Airlines from Panama where they hold stock for worldwide disasters.  A truck of aid carrying thermal blankets has crossed the border into Syria and winter coats are being sent to Syria through ReliefAid as night time temperatures drop below freezing.

A collection box has been left in the Turkish Barbers on Duke Street for anyone who would like to make further donations.  Many of the barbers have family and friends affected by this terrible disaster.

“It was a grey, cold day and the footfall in Henley was light, so we are extremely  pleased by the generosity of those who passed by,” said Craig Wilson, Henley Rotary Club president. “The money will go directly where it is needed through Rotary action on the ground and via our partner ShelterBox.”
