Packed Programme for Big Green Week Including Greener House & Garden Show
Henley will be going green again with a packed programme for The Great Big Green Week this year in June (10-18 June) for everyone to get involved and make a difference to the environment.
The Big Green Fair will kick off the week on 10 June in Henley Town Hall with stalls organised by Greener Henley. The following weekend will see the return of the Henley House & Garden Show on 17-18 June going ‘Green’ at Henley Rugby Club with eco-friendly and sustainable exhibitors showcasing their products and services.
Organiser of the Henley House & Garden Show, Niki Schafer has also taken on the organisation and co-ordination of The Great Big Green Week in Henley. She said, “I wanted to bring back the HHGS and I know that the environment and being sustainable is becoming more important to people and therefore the choices they make. We will have suppliers of solar panels, vintage furniture, insulation companies etc. who will also offer demos and talks. On Saturday at the show we will also be having fun creating energy through ergo fitness machines in partnership with the gyms/sports clubs. We’ve got lots of ideas and a good group of people who want to make this the biggest Henley Big Green week ever but we’re still looking for more volunteers if people want to get involved.”
Retailers will be invited to have green themed windows and restaurants, pubs and cafes are being encouraged to offer a plant based menu that week. There will be a scavenger hunt competition for families to take part in by visiting retailers around the town.
Warrior on Waste, Lynne Lambourne will be organising a paddle board river clean up and it is hoped that a big yellow duck to recycle rubbish will be built and installed at the riverside.
Schools will be offered workshops to learn about recycling and make bug hotels and bird feeders and entries from the Henley Youth Festival green art competitions will be displayed at the Old Fire Station Gallery.
Churches will be getting involved too on Sunday 11 June by dedicating their services to the environment through sermons and music.
There will be chance to tour Henley gardens and allotments during the week plus gardening talks. Dates to be confirmed.
Businesses will be invited to a Green Business Tactics event on Wednesday 14 June with speakers covering energy audits, going carbon neutral and how to reduce emissions.
A film event is being organised at the Regal cinema on Thursday 15 June with a panel Q&A discussion afterwards.
Pre-loved, vintage and upcycled clothes will be available to buy at the Green Fashion night at Henley Rugby Club on Friday 16 June.
