Rugby Club Thanks Volunteers

Over 170 volunteers help at Henley Rugby Club throughout the year, from coaches to car parking attendants and 9 of them were thanked and invited to lunch on Saturday before the Hawks match against Westcliff.

Club President, Graham Horner presented the the following volunteers with a special pen.

Rick Oakley for being Deputy Chairman of the Minis and Juniors (M&J) and also integral in helping in the re-branding exercise over the summer.

Ruth Piercy – U13’s Team Manager. Ruth co-ordinated the big M&J shirt distribution back in September and has always been an incredibly supportive and proactive part of the M&J set-up.

Gen Moody – Women’s Club Captain. Not only is Gen the Hawks Women’s Club captain, she also is part of the Dry Leas Fundraising Group and is now the key ambassador for Brave Mind in helping to further develop their relationship with the Club.

David Lewis – Henley III’s Team Manager & supplier of Bean Bags. David has been an incredibly important component of the Vikings over several years now, and his support has also been key in making sure communication is effective throughout the team. He also supplies the excellent Henley Hawks branded bean bags which are on sale through the club shop!

Barrie Jones – 200 Club leader. Barrie has run the 200 Club since records began and does so with a smile on his face despite the constant abuse he receives from certain individuals who haven’t won anything in months.

Ash Gow – M&J Coach. Ash has been a coach for many years with the M&Js as well as playing for the Vultures as well. A big supporter of the Club and a lovely guy to boot, we all need more Ash Gow’s in our lives.

Two Friday Club members were honoured.  Allan Staines for being part of the Friday Club for many years and has been there through thick and thin. He was instrumental in recruiting more individuals to help the cause. The Friday Club is certainly in a very good place because of the efforts he puts in. James Leach who is a rea club stalwart who is always here come rain or shine, or in December when it was -7! James also very kindly lent his time over the summer with the regatta car parking at the club.

Amy Pickford – M&J Volunteer. Amy very kindly helps with the administration for the M&J’s including supporting the great kit distribution back in September.

Graham Harris was unfortunately able to attend the lunch.  He is another vital part of the Friday Club, Graham has been instrumental in making sure the facilities are always in excellent order and is here every Friday without fail.

Chairman, Chris Nixon said, “All the work of the volunteers is so valuable to the Club, so please continue.”
