Plans for Coronation Day Unveiled
Live footage of the King’s cornation will be shown on a big screen in Market Place from 11am on Saturday 6 May.
The Market Place will be closed to traffic from 9am and the Town Crier, David Wilson, will welcome residents. The big screen will be set up in front of the Town Hall showing the coverage of the full coronation event. There will also be stilt walkers and a roaming 4 piece band, Brigade (as seen pre-match at Wembley Stadium) to add to the atmosphere.
Locals are encouraged to bring a chair and join their local community in watching the big event.
The bunting will be up around the town and shops are being asked to create window displays themed for the Coronation. There will also be a ‘King’s Trail’ for Children. Entry forms will be available from the Information Centre at the Town Hall. Letters can be found in local shops. The winning entry will be picked at random from all the correct entries for one big prize.
Paul Carey, Town Centre Manager says “This will be a wonderful day and it will be great to see the community come together on this momentous occasion.”
