Cafe Scientifique Henley Presents THE ELEPHANT: QUO VADIS?
Wednesday 17 May
7.00pm for 7.30pm start
Henley Hockey Club
This presentation explores the ancestry of both African and Asian elephants, their unique biology and recent advances in elephant research.
While elephants in captivity may be thought of as safe, their counterparts in the wild are under enormous threat.
Man’s destruction of habitat and scant regard for the most noble of terrestrial mammals, despite their cultural significance in many Asian countries,
has meant that elephants now face an existential threat that few understand and even fewer can control.
While efforts to re-establish the woolly mammoth are gaining momentum, modern elephants continue to fascinate, amaze and educate.
