St. Mary’s Seussical Summer Production!
This summer, the Year 5 and Year 6 children at St. Mary’s Preparatory School have delighted their audiences with a magical production of Seussical Junior.
From the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos. Horton is tasked with protecting the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, and must also guard an egg that has been left in his care by the very irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Facing ridicule, danger and a trial, the intrepid Gerturde McFuzz never loses faith in him. The story is about friendship and loyalty, family and community, themes that resonate with us all.
Rob Harmer, Headmaster said, “Our end of year summer show is a wonderful St. Mary’s tradition, and this year’s show has been spectacular! It takes great courage to perform on stage in front of your friends, family and the whole school, and the children have really embraced the challenge – and had a lot of fun! I know that our parents are in for a real treat, and for those leaving us to move on to senior school at the end of term, it is a wonderful way to end their time at St. Mary’s.”
Alice O’Sullivan, Drama added, “Producing the Year 5 and 6 production of Seussical Junior has been an absolute delight! I am so proud of how hard the children have worked to make this such a wonderful show. They have had great fun learning their lines, rehearsing the songs and getting into character. From the amazing colourful backdrops to the costumes and lighting, to the wonderful acting and singing, it is something that they will all remember for many years to come.”
