Ace Casino Charity Night Aboard The New Orleans

Ace Henley playing cards are hosting their first-ever event; a Casino Night aboard The New Orleans boat in aid of Henley based charity Riverside Counselling Service. The evening promises to be packed full of glitz, glamour and fun.

Tickets to the black-tie event will take place on the evening of Friday 29 September 2023 and costs £125 per person with a minimum of £20 per ticket being donated to the charity that provides affordable counselling and psychotherapy to adults and young people from the age of 12.

Emma Sweet, who launched the Henley playing cards in March this year said “I’ve always loved The New Orleans, it’s such a beautiful and iconic boat and would make the perfect setting for a glamorous casino night. I shared the idea with Jonnie Hobbs and he very generously offered use of The New Orleans for free so that more money can go towards the Charity.

Emma, who lives in Knowl Hill but works at Henley-based pub company Brakspear continued “A casino night just seemed like a good fit for the cards. I’m hoping the night will raise at least £3k for Riverside Counselling Services. There’s going to be Blackjack and Roulette tables as well as live music, a 4-course sit-down dinner and an auction with some fabulous Henley prizes to bid for.”

Jonathan Hobbs, Managing Director of Hobbs of Henley boat company said “My wife Suzy is now a trustee for Riverside Counselling Services so when Emma mentioned she was keen to support a local charity, it seemed like the perfect fit. Mental health is so important and something we all focus on. I felt it important to show our support to this wonderful local charity that’s very close to our hearts and as Hobbs of Henley is in the eight of clubs in the pack, it’s great to support the Henley playing cards too.”

The Blackjack and Roulette tables will be played using “fun” money rather than real cash with the best players winning prizes rather than money, so as to comply with UK gambling laws.

Each ticket also includes entry to an after-party planned at the Angel on the Bridge, with landlord Mark Dunlop hosting late-night poker for those who want to play. For those who don’t, the bar will be open so guests can enjoy a few more drinks.

For those businesses who’d like to be involved, auction prizes are being sought. Emma added “Anyone who can donate something be it an experience, service or item, you’ll be heavily promoted on the night. It doesn’t matter how big or small the prize is, I’m just keen to have as many local businesses involved as possible.”
