Trailer Unveiled for George Clooney’s ‘The Boys in the Boat’ Filmed in Henley

The trailer above has been released this week for The Boys in the Boat, directed by George Clooney in which you can see some of scenes that were filmed at Upper Thames Rowing Club and on the Henley Reach of the River Thames in May this year.

Upper Thames Rowing Club was the base for the filming where old boats, cars and hundreds of extras were seen on the footpath. George Clooney has a house in Sonning and so the local location for filming was perfect. Gillian Nahum, owner of Henley Sales and Charter, rented six 30s-style boats to the production company for filming.

The Boys In The Boat is based on the book by Daniel James Brown. Adapted by Jon Hartmere and Mark L Smith, it’s the real life 1930s story of a rowing team from the University of Washington who, in depression-era America, headed to the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin.  Clooney has cast Joel Edgerton, Hadley Robinson and Callum Turner in the film. The base for filming was at Berkshire’s new Winnersh Film Studios and other rowing scenes were filmed at Dorney Lake.

The film comes out in America on Christmas Day and in UK cinemas on 12 January 2024.
