Fresh From The Fringe

After top comedian Mark Watson performed at The Kenton in January, he has organised for two young acts that performed at the Edinburgh Festival last year to come  The Kenton on Friday, 1 March.

Mark said, “As well as performing shows myself, one of the things I like to do is promote other comedians, and I’m sending two of them to Henley in a show called Fresh From The Fringe. This is basically a showcase for younger acts who’ve made a big impression at the Edinburgh Festival the previous summer. The two that are coming to the Kenton are very much in that category.”

First up is part-comedian, part-magician, Pete Heat who sold out his entire run at the Fringe, and he does things you will simply not believe. Mark comments, “Even if you think you don’t like magic – which is a lot of people – he’s more than prepared for that. He’s one of the most exciting entertainers I’ve seen in recent years.” The other half of the bill, Mary O Connell, is a brilliant young comic who won the OldFans Creative Fund last year, the biggest prize in comedy, and – again – was a big hit in Edinburgh, putting on extra shows and collecting all manner of great reviews.

Mark added, “Part of what I enjoy most about comedy is shining a light on these people as they come up, and Fresh From The Fringe is an attempt to draw attention to a couple of hugely talented people you might not have seen live before. I’m hoping that Henley gets behind it and that this can be the start of an exciting tradition. Do take a chance on them if you’re free that night, and I don’t think you’ll regret it!”
