Henley Have Winning Week

Henley Bowls Club entertained Desborough last Wednesday (12 June) in a friendly five mixed triples match winning on four of the five rinks with a score of 91-55. Simon Hatcher with Dave Palmer and Rachel Shaw had a most competitive rink, dropping 6 shots over the first three ends, were 10-10 after eleven ends, 2 down after seventeen ends but then picked up 3 to just win 16-15. Dave Wilson with Angelika Crisa and Richard Kingston scored steadily and were the highest winning rink with a score of 26-5. Joan Edwards, continuing her run of wins as skip, with Ian Gibson and Martin Taylor started strongly and ran out winners by 19-9. Peter Borsberry with John Munnelly and Ian Ayers were 2 up after eight ends and maintained their lead to win 16-8. Colin Ward with Ramsay Adams and Phil Smillie were 5-4 after six ends, were 8 down after twelve ends and although they picked up a 4, couldn’t maintain their momentum and went down 14-18.

On Saturday 15 June, Henley played Palmer Park in an OTL five mixed triples match which was closely contested with Henley just edging a win with a score of 83-80. Henley thus gained 11 OTL points to Palmer Park’s 3. Barrie Davies with Peter Falle and Jo Wilson were the highest winning rink and although they dropped a 5 on end two, were ahead 10-9 after eleven ends, and finished strongly to win 20-14. Colin Ward with Martin Cranstoun and Joan Edwards scored 4 on the first end, were 3 up after six ends but then fell away to 7-14 by end ten. They then scored steadily over the last eight ends to win 18-15. Dave Wilson with Peter Borsberry and Sally Daniells were 6 up after five ends, were pegged back to 14-14 after thirteen ends and were tied 16-16 going into the last end. Then, with what some would describe as the shot of the match, Henley won 17-16. Gill Robins with John Munnelly and Peter Watkins were evenly matched 9-8 after twelve ends, picked up a 5 on the next end, were pegged back to 3 up going into the final end when they dropped 3 shots to draw 15-15. Norman Daniells with Simon Hatcher and Angelika Crisa started slowly, failing to score on the first four ends. They then scored steadily to lead 10-6 after eleven ends but fell away to go down 13-20.

Henley entertained Tilehurst in an OTL on Sunday 16 June for a five mixed triples match winning on three rinks and losing on two with the a score of 90-79. Henley gained 10 OTL points to Tilehurst’s 4. Norman Daniells with Peter Falle and Joan Edwards scored heavily throughout the match, winning on fourteen of the eighteen ends and finished with a score of 34-5 thus being the highest winning rink. Barrie Davies with John Munnelly and Angelika Crisa were 10 up after nine ends, dropped 6 over the next two ends but pulled back to be 10 up after fifteen ends and ran out winners 21-15. Colin Ward with Simon Hatcher and Sally Daniells were 6-6 all after six ends, 7 up after twelve ends and won with a score of 18-15. Dave Wilson with Steve Sullivan and Rachel Shaw were in contention after ten ends with a score of 9-10 after ten ends but then fell away to go down 11-20. Peter Borsberry with Andy Scott and Trish Jones struggled throughout the match and lost 6-24.”
