Large housing site off Fairmile finally gets go ahead

The planning application to develop the site and demolish existing buildings at land to the west of the Fairmile for 71 residential units (51 houses and 20 flats) has been finally been approved after 6 years.

The application by Thames Properties Ltd. has been through 4 amended plans over this time for the site which backs on to Luker Avenue and is included in the Joint Henley & Harpsden Neighbourhood Plan.

Some of the delay in this application was due to the protection of slow worms which needed to be migrated from the site.  Henley Town Council agreed in 2022 to fence off an area on 40 Acre Field (off Tilebarn Close) for a new habitat for the slow worms to be moved to.  The Council have also been in negotiations with Thames Properties about access to the site over verge of the Council’s land.

A spokesperson for Henley Town Council said, “The Council hasn’t yet sold the access rights to the land over the Fairmile. Now that planning permission has been granted, Thames Properties will be looking to sell the land, which will include the access rights.”
