Mixed Start to the Season for Henley Bowling Club

On 18 May, Henley visited Palmer Park for their opening five mixed triples OTL match in an expectant mood. It became clear early in the match that they were going to fall short of their expectations, as after nine ends they were trailing overall by 32 shots, losing on four rinks, and drawing on one,  eventually going down 57- 100. Barrie Davies with Peter Borsberry and Jo Wilson started slowly, as all triples did, but managed to earn a draw 20-20. The remaining four triples struggled and all went down. Gill Robins with Norman Daniells and Nigel Bridges 7-18, Dave Wilson with Steve Sullivan and Sally Daniells 12-20, Andy Scott with Jeanie Davies and Peter Watkins 11-21 and David Burdon with Colin Ward and Romy Painter 7-21.

On 19 May, Henley visited Harwell in a four mixed triples friendly match, winning on 3 rinks and drawing on 1 with the resulting score 93-35. Gill Robins with Jeanie Davies and Richard Kingston played in a closely fought match, eventually drawing 13-13. Barrie Davies with Sally Daniells and John Wilkinson were always in the lead, running out winners 24-4. Andy Scott with Steve Sullivan and Joan Edwards started strongly finishing with a winning margin of 22 shots. Norman Daniells with Peter Borsberry and Nigel Bridges had a good win by a margin of 16 shots.

On 21 May Henley entertained Maiden Erlegh in a five mixed triples OTL match losing 75-93, gaining 4 points to Maiden Erlegh’s 10. Dave Wilson with Colin Ward and Joan Edwards started strongly and were 12 up after nine ends running out winners 27-8. Gill Robins with Andy Scott and Nigel Bridges ran out winners 18-17, Barrie Davies with Steve Sullivan and Lynn Sayer were level 9 all after eleven ends, but  dropped 10 shots over the remaining ends to go down 12-22. Norman Daniells with Peter Borsberry and Jeanie Davies struggled from the start, picked up towards the end, but still went down 10-23. David Burdon with Sally Daniells and Dave Palmer fell away mid-point through the match going down 8-23.

On 22 May, Henley entertained Thame in a five mixed triples friendly match winning on three rinks and losing on two, with the resulting score 92-74. Peter Borsberry with Keith Lawrance and John Cross we’re 10 up after eight ends, running out winners 18-10. Andy Scott with Trish Jones and Frank Powell started slowly, were 12 down after ten ends, level after seventeen ends, but dropped 1 on the final end to go down 20-21. Barrie Davies with Peter Watkins and Jim Turner were evenly matched after ten ends, but pulled away to win 24-11. Dave Wilson with Maurice Robins and John Wilkinson were level after ten ends, 6 down after fourteen ends, then picked up the pace, and ran out winners 17-15. Gills Robins with Jeanie Davies and Jim Walter were evenly matched after twelve ends, but fell away to lose 13-17.
