Parents get tough to raise money for school play area

A team of eleven parents and friends of Sacred Heart School tackled the Tough Mudder course last Saturday and raised £2,000 toward upgrading the outside play areas at the school.

The team were Tsvetomir Tonkin, Linden Glen, Denis Imelbaev, Kamil Backowski, Mark Russell,  Kat & James Kenyon, Veselina & Hristo Georgievi, Trayko Shulev, Mixa Chan.

The 5km course is designed to test your physical strength, mental grit, and aptitude for camaraderie and includes obstacles such as The Block Ness Monster, Artic Enema, Electric Eel and Kiss of Mud!

Tsvetomir who organised the team said: I organised parents group to raise money for our wonderful school. I wanted to show my daughter in Y5 that together our efforts can make a massive impact to the community. I enjoyed sharing the experience with a wonderful parents I can now call my friends.

Denis said, “This wasn’t just a challenge for me, it was a call to show our children and families the importance of teamwork. By supporting each other, we can achieve great results and make a difference. The joints will recover, but the impact we make will last far beyond the race.”

Veselina and Hristo added, “We took part in the Tough Mudder to support the school attended by our friend’s child. We came together to raise support for a cause that means a great deal to us, as seeing the wonderful person she is growing into makes us confident the school plays a vital role in her development. The biggest challenge was pushing ourselves physically and mentally and stepping outside our comfort zones to prove what we could achieve together. Crossing the finish line left us feeling extremely proud, knowing we had exceeded our own expectations and made a meaningful contribution to the school.

Mixa couldn’t have done it without his teammates.  He said, “Big thanks to everyone who supported the fundraiser, we raised over £2k, which is going to make a real difference and give our kids a better environment. Also, a huge shoutout to my teammates. Without you guys, there’s no way I would’ve survived those freezing mud obstacles.”

On finishing the team the battered and bruised.  Kat commented, “When the opportunity came up to join a team raising money for my children’s school, I couldn’t imagine a better event and cause, or a better group to take it on with. Sacred Heart is such a special school with a supportive community and a wonderful learning environment for our children.

“There was such an amazing atmosphere on the day with everyone encouraging each other through the mud, obstacles, freezing water and plenty of moments that pushed us well outside our comfort zones. Taking part alongside fellow parents made it even more special and there was such a strong sense of teamwork and camaraderie throughout the whole event.

“Despite coming away with huge bruises, scrapes and very battered elbows and knees, I would do it all again in a heartbeat next year. It was such a rewarding experience, not only because we challenged ourselves physically, but because we were doing it together for such a meaningful cause and for a school community that means so much to all of us.”
