The Chiltern Centre welcomes a new Chair of Trustees

Following an extensive and very thorough recruitment process, the Board of The Chiltern Centre is pleased to share that David Buckle has been selected to take on the role of Chair of Trustees.

David brings with him a wealth of experience across healthcare, charity, and governance, including 50 years in the NHS. He worked as a GP in Woodley, Berkshire for over 30 years and has had a distinguished career in clinical leadership and medical management. In 2008, he became Medical Director of a large Primary Care Trust, responsible for primary care commissioning. Prior to this, in 2015, he was appointed Medical Director for Herts Valleys Clinical Commissioning Group, before retiring in early 2018.

David has also held several non-executive roles, including at Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, where he chaired the Quality Committee, and at Salisbury Hospital Foundation Trust. He lives in Twyford and is also a trustee for other charities including the Stroke Association and Crohn’s & Colitis UK.

David took up the role in April and is enjoying meeting the team to learn more about the vital work they do, and he had this to say about his appointment:

“Having lived close to Henley for the last 40 years I am absolutely delighted to join The Chiltern Centre and lead the organisation at this exciting time in its development. We will strive to achieve our objective of building a new purpose-built centre to serve and support our deserving young adults and their families.

I have worked in the NHS all my life, as a GP, hospital doctor, and NHS non-executive director. I have seen at first hand the limited resources available for young adults with ongoing disabilities. This is where charitable support such as that offered by The Chiltern Centre is absolutely invaluable.

I am grateful to the Trustees and their dedicated and committed team for making me feel so welcome.”

The Chiltern Centre, based on Greys Road in Henley on Thames, provides specialist care for young adults with disabilities and complex medical needs. It provides high-quality short-break and daycare services that are uniquely tailored to the needs of the individual, empowering the people they support to have fun, make friends, learn, grow and develop whilst providing their families with the break they need to recharge and reset.
