District Council Discharge Legal Clause to Allow Planet Organic to Open

South Oxfordshire District Council have discharged the legal clause on the former Superdrug store in Market Place which dates back to 1984 that stated the site should be kept as a retail shop, allowing Planet Organic to open their first store outside of London.

Despite Henley Town Council’s Planning Committee recommend refusal of the discharge stating “that retail should be kept at this location” and not a change of use to allow a business to serve food or drink.

Planet Organic also applied for planning for their signage which originally was to be vinyl material.  They have now agreed to keep in line with the SODC shopfront guide in a conservation area meaning they will hand paint the wooden facade instead.  They have also applied and had granted an outdoor seating licence from SODC and are talking to Henley Town Council about a Market Place seating licence.

A spokesperson for Planet Organic said, “We are really excited about opening our first store outside of central London and look forward to welcoming the residents of Henley through our doors when we launch this Autumn.”
