Local Charity Seeks to Recruit New Volunteers as it Approaches 25th Anniversary
Are you minded to respond to the coronation challenge issued by King Charles to take up volunteering? If so, South Oxfordshire Mencap Society (SOMS) would love to hear from you. The charity was formed in 1999. Its Honorary Life President, Melba Pitt MBE, is 100 years old in two years` time. Next year, 2024, it will celebrate its 25th anniversary.
The Chairman, Treasurer, and other key members of the Executive Committee will all be octogenarians in a year or two. They are determined to find their successors for the charity to continue to serve its 100 strong membership by providing the weekly social activities at its Meteor Club and its ever- popular discos, summer barbeques, and Christmas parties.
The charity is blessed with over 25 volunteers to help run its social programmes but now needs to recruit younger (50+!) volunteers, both men and women, who are prepared to serve on its Executive Committee and take the charity forward by a hands- on commitment and a willingness to recruit younger members to safeguard the charity for the next generation.
Will you give it a go? If so, visit our website at southoxfordshiremencap.org.uk for more information and contact our Chairman, Paul Barrett, at paulandmarybarrett@tiscali.co.uk or lisaannedrage@gmail.com to register your interest. Thank you !
